This has been one of the hardest weeks of my life. Remember my 92-year-old father in the green sweater? We had to move him to a nursing home a few days ago.
He had a rough night/morning this past Wednesday and my mom called me too early in the day. So early, that it made my heart skip a few beats when the phone rang, especially after looking at my caller ID. Without going in to detail, we ended up taking him to the emergency room. The good doctor could find no reason to admit him (no evidence of a stroke). However, the social worker recommended he go into a skilled nursing center since his balance is off and he could not walk or stand unaided. Fortunately, the med center area of the retirement village where my parents already live had an opening, and he was able to move in immediately.
How I have seen God’s timing at work:
- This all happened on Wednesday, my regular day off from work, so no patients had to be rescheduled for their appointments. God’s timing is amazing.
- My husband was a life-saver in helping to transport my Dad to and from the hospital. Thankfully, his job allows him flexibility. He also made sure we had food for the kids for our usual Wednesday night dinner together at our house that night. God’s provision is sufficient.
- Within 20 minutes of my dad moving into his new room in the nursing center, he had a non-family visitor drop by with well wishes and encouragement. God’s timing is perfect.
I’m praying my dad will improve quickly so he can return to his apartment with my mom. I know God’s timing will be just right even if it doesn’t fit our desires or schedule.
