Cannoli Cones come as a sugar cone filled with sweetened ricotta and sprinkled with chocolate–reminiscent of the flavors in an Italian cannoli pastry.
Have you ever had a cannoli?
I fell in love with this Italian treat after eating them at Mike’s Pastries in Boston. Did you know you can order a kit to make your own cannoli at home from Mike’s? I may try that sometime for a very special treat. (40$ for 10 cannoli.)
These somewhat lower-calorie cones remind me of cannoli. Make the filling using ricotta cheese. Make homemade ricotta if you like, but it is available in most larger supermarkets.
Mix ricotta and yogurt in a blender to get the smoothest results. Add the sweetener of your choice. Portion into a sugar cone and top off with chopped chocolate. Ridiculously easy and takes less than 8 minutes to make (unless you decide to make your own ricotta cheese).
The ricotta filling will store for several days.
Wondering what the mug means?
It was given to us by Bert and Gezien Takens, some friends of ours from Holland. Think it means “YUMMY!” in Dutch. A perfect description for this little snack.
A Variation of Cannoli Cones:
The ricotta mixture makes a delicious snack with plain pita chips. I have to portion out the chips and ricotta dip before I start because it’s hard to stop. This stuff is dangerous!!
If you make this and enjoy the recipe, it would help me and others if you would return to this post and leave a rating (on the recipe card itself underneath the picture). Although always appreciated, no comment is required. Thanks so much! Paula
- 1 15 oz. carton ricotta cheese, low-fat or nonfat if you can find it
- 1/4 c. nonfat Greek yogurt (can substitute regular plain or vanilla flavored yogurt but play with the amount since it is not as thick)
- 5 packets sweetener (or sugar)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/8 cup coarsely chopped bittersweet chocolate chips (Ghiradelli recommended)
- Combine first four ingredients in blender and blend till smooth. Chill. Add chopped chocolate.
- To serve: spoon into small sugar cone and sprinkle with more chocolate.
The ricotta mixture makes a delicious dip with plain pita chips. Portion out chips and dip before you start because it’s hard to stop.
